Instagram post 2192361799838733429_2207508782 #tbt to a c.1896 portrait of Mary W. (“Molly”) Dewson who graduated from @DanaHallSchool in #1893 and went on to become a political reformer and public servant. Throughout her career, Molly worked to increase the role of women in politics and government, and advocated for social and economic change. This evening the Helen Temple Cooke Library and #Archives are hosting a reception to celebrate Dewson and Frances Perkins, the first woman member of a presidential cabinet. Please join us from 5:30 to 7 pm in the Library! The traveling exhibit from the Frances Perkins Center, and a display of materials on Molly Dewson and her time at #DanaHall will be on view until Winter Break. Instagram post 2182272844410273986_2207508782 #tbt to Charles Eastman visiting @DanaHallSchool in #1910 on #FieldDay. Dr. Eastman was a skilled physician, prolific author and engaging lecturer. He was born in 1858 on a Santee Dakota reservation in Minnesota and went on to attend Dartmouth College and Boston University Medical School. Dr. Eastman was also a political reformer who fought for the rights of the indigenous populations under Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Although we are not sure how Dr. Eastman met Principal Helen Temple Cooke, we know that she was so impressed by his work that she invited him to campus to speak to #DanaHall students. #archives
